Why Yoga?

We have all heard the phrase 'prevention is better than cure.' And that particular phrase just about sums up yoga. The practice stems from a culture and an era with no national system of health care, and far less sentiment towards the body. In those days the body was understood for what it actually was, a vehicle with a driver (body, mind and spirit), and the less trouble it caused, then so much the better. Now, there is often a detachment from the body (vehicle). We may dress it up like a Christmas tree and yet neglect it at the same time and wonder why it lets us down. And here is the pay off. If we can learn to understand and maintain the mechanics of the body and its driver (mind/spirit) – those superficialities, which fail to conceal the rust beneath become - in time, unnecessary.
Now I would say that, wouldn’t I? After all I teach yoga but then again I could have chosen to teach another form of Fitness. Instead I choose to teach Well-ness. Yoga is the only complete form of Well-Ness that I have ever heard of and certainly one that has stood the test of time. Why spend an hour maintaining the vehicle (exercise) when you could be maintaining the driver as well (yoga)?
